Economically disadvantaged students made up 49.7% of the student body. Our district has great, award-winning, athletics programs that have won numerous state accolades and developed champions. AISD provides highly competitive programs to instil exceptional character in our students. In November 2021, those running for historically non-partisan city positions (e.g., school board) included signal phrases such as "conservative" and "Republican" in their campaign materials. Courtney Gore and Melanie Graft, who ran for and won positions on the school board, promised to "comb through educational materials for any signs of 'indoctrination' in the form of books or lesson plans that they charged promote LGBTQ ideology or what they referred to as critical race theory." In the 2015–2016 school year, the school district had a total of 6,971 students, ranging from early childhood and pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The class of 2015 included 444 graduates; the annual drop-out rate across grades 9-12 was 1.0%.
Small portions of Parker, Johnson, and Somervell counties also lie within the district. Texas Essential Knowledge and Skillsto all students in their classrooms. We are excited to be offering courses in electrical technology, digital communications, graphic design, culinary arts, information technology, software development, engineering, and many others.

The photography offerings available to students at Galveston ISD’s Ball High School have expanded rapidly recently, growing from one course offered to now four in just a two-year span. In 2022, the district was involved in controversy around the actions of superintendent Jeremy Glenn, who specifically ordered district librarians to remove books with LGBTQ themes and characters. Legal experts said that these actions raised constitutional concerns of illegal discrimination. In addition to Granbury, the district serves the eastern Hood County cities of DeCordova, Cresson, and Brazos Bend along with the unincorporated communities of Pecan Plantation and Oak Trail Shores.
Grand Prairie Collegiate Institute is one of only 31 schools in Texas, and one of 297 schools across the country, to be recognized today by U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona as a Blue Ribbon School based on overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Congratulations to GISD Executive Director of Secondary Education Matthew Neighbors on receiving the Texas Association of Administrators Johnny L Veselka Scholarship. The award is presented to outstanding doctoral students pursuing careers in educational leadership, with leadership emphasis on the superintendency. As of the 2015–2016 school year, the ethnic distribution of the school district was 72.3% White, 23.7% Hispanic, 0.7% Asian, 0.7% American Indian, 0.6% African American, 0.2% Pacific Islander, and 1.8% from two or more races.

We strive to make classrooms and education more meaningful and relevant for all students and teachers by providing unique, extraordinary opportunities. The classes, part of the school’s Media Arts and Digital Technology Community, provide students in grades 9 through 12 with opportunities to gain first-hand digital photography experience in a variety of ways, including photographing district and community events. The George West Independent School District places the safety and security of our children and staff as a top priority. A first-of-its-kind unmanned aerial and marine piloting program is gaining momentum for students in Galveston Independent School District’s Career and Technical Education program at Ball High School this fall. Since October, several districts and other educational groups across the country have been among the first to receive such a donation - including GPISD, the first school district in Texas to become a beneficiary of Ms. Scott’s philanthropy. District data shared at the July Board meeting, showed that the District is rebounding in every area. In some cases, the gap between pre- and post-pandemic scores are closing. While there were many highlights, one student group is outperforming the State and our comparable districts. Our emerging bilingual students continued to develop academically while learning English as a second language as well as navigating the pandemic. A final draft calendar was presented to the Board for action at last night’s Board meeting. It may not be a well-known fact that dyslexia can affect up to 20 percent of a student population. It can, and that presents a significant number of students who struggle with dyslexia-related challenges, such as learning to read or interpret words, letters, and other symbols, to name a few. Kindergarten through 4th-grade students excitedly rotated through the school’s library where small groups sat with cadets in uniform and enjoyed hearing them read aloud. Kate Huddleston, a staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas, commented that this "is very much evidence of anti-LGBTQ and particularly anti-trans discrimination."
